The Bihar government has directed executing agencies to accelerate work on four major infrastructure projects—including two irrigation schemes and two mega bridges across the Ganga—by deploying additional manpower, machinery, and equipment.
The move is aimed at ensuring timely completion of critical projects that support regional connectivity and water management. Key irrigation works include the ₹1,367 crore North Koel Reservoir Project (NKRP) across Gaya and Aurangabad districts, and the ₹232 crore Mandaee project, which involves the construction of a weir along with right and left canal systems. Land acquisition for NKRP is nearing completion, with strict timelines set for execution.
Among the bridge projects, the ₹1,822 crore Bakhtiarpur–Tajpur bridge is scheduled for completion by May 2027. Work on the Sultanganj–Aguwani Ghat bridge is also being fast-tracked, particularly on approach roads, with a continued emphasis on quality standards.
Authorities have been instructed to complete canal works ahead of the monsoon and submit safety audit reports for bridge structures. The review highlights the state government’s focus on speeding up infrastructure delivery while maintaining construction quality and safety compliance.
